About Dr Ryan H. Nguyen
Bio
Dr. Ryan Nguyen is a board-certified pain medicine physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic pain conditions. He earned his medical degree from University of California, Irvine and completed his residency in Anesthesiology at USC before pursuing fellowship training in pain medicine at UCLA. Dr. Nguyen believes in taking the time to understand each patient's unique experience with pain and developing personalized treatment plans that improve function, restore quality of life, and help patients return to the activities they enjoy.
Dr. Nguyen's interest in medicine began at a young age and grew through his experience volunteering as a camp counselor for children with cancer, where he witnessed the impact compassionate care could have on patients and their families. His decision to specialize in pain medicine was shaped by a personal experience during his medical training, when he cared for his grandmother while she underwent treatment for lung cancer. Seeing how pain affected her quality of life, and the difference thoughtful pain management made in easing her suffering, inspired him to pursue a career helping others facing similar challenges. Today, he takes a thoughtful, patient-centered approach to care, combining evidence-based medicine with the latest advances in pain management while recognizing that every patient's experience with pain is unique.
Outside of work, Dr. Nguyen enjoys spending time with his wife and family, traveling, attending concerts and sporting events, and cheering on the Los Angeles Lakers. He also enjoys playing piano, composing music, staying active through hiking, running, basketball, and skiing, and discovering new restaurants, especially for sushi.
