About Dr. Heather R. Macdonald
Bio
Dr. Heather Macdonald is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and fellowship-trained breast surgeon practicing in Newport Beach and Irvine, California. She currently serves as Medical Director of the High-Risk Breast Program at Hoag, as well as Medical Director of the Hoag Breast Center in Irvine. In addition, she leads the Hoag Menopause Program as its Medical Director.
Dr. Macdonald completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology and her fellowship training in breast surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. During her fellowship, she was twice awarded the prestigious George Peters Award by the American Society of Breast Surgeons. She subsequently served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Surgery at USC before being recruited to Hoag.
With dual expertise in obstetrics and gynecology and breast surgery, Dr. Macdonald offers a comprehensive and integrated approach to women’s health. Her clinical focus includes the diagnosis and management of breast disease, surgical treatment of breast cancer, care of high-risk patients, and management of inherited breast cancer syndromes. She also specializes in gynecologic considerations related to breast disease, including pregnancy-associated breast cancer, menopause management, contraception, fertility preservation, and hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndromes.
Her surgical expertise includes oncoplastic breast-conserving procedures, as well as skin-sparing and nipple-sparing mastectomies. Dr. Macdonald is actively involved in education and serves as a faculty member in the Hoag Oncoplastic Breast Surgical Fellowship.
She is a Certified Menopause Practitioner through The Menopause Society, a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and a member of both the American Society of Breast Surgeons and The Menopause Society.
